Is it possible in album view to have the artist information taken from Album Artist rather than plain artist. If there is any album tagged with a contributing artist under the artist listing the entire album is given a various artist tag.

Just remove the "contributing artist" from the MP3 tag.
Also, what i do is move any other artists in the "Artist" tag and add them to the "Title" tag, for example.
Original tag.
Help Me Rhonda - The Beach Boys & Royal Philharmonic Orchestra
Fixed tag
Help Me Rhonda (With Royal Philharmonic Orchestra) - The Beach Boys

Problem is my database ie over 20k albums, don't really want to go over all the affected albums manually

TouchJams sorts tracks by ALBUM, Then ARTIST, then displays the results on the HOME page in ARTIST order. If ALL the tracks in the same ALBUM have the SAME ARTIST name, then that will make a single ARTIST album. If any of the tracks in the ALBUM have DIFFERENT ARTIST names, then it will become a VARIOUS ARTISTS album. I don't think it's anything to do with "contributing artist" tag, i may be wrong, as i removed all my contributing artist tags to be on the safe side.
So the correct tagging is very important, as with any other music software. You can load ALL your albums into MP3Tag, select all, and remove all the contributing artist tags at once, if your PC can handle 20,000 albums at once.

Agree completely with what you are saying, there is no "contributing artist" tag, just more than 1 artist listed in some artist tags, therefore they are placed under various so they would all meed manually altered. The album artist already has this info so using this would save me considerable time, thats all. I know why its happening and how to resolve the issue but was hoping there was a setting to switch from album/artist to album/album artist. That way I wouldn't have to mess with my database.

There is no other way (That i am aware of), but to modify your ARTIST tags.

I made a separate drive to edit for my Jukebox.....also acts as my backup. I was not too worried about having the Artists listed with Contributing Artists in my jukebox front end.....trying to keep the interface simple and clutter free was the mission. So, I just highlighted that artists folder on my hard drive with Tag&Rename (I find it the best for bulk tagging "Artist") and use a blanket tag on "artist" and cover the rest up. Cleans up the Artist category so you don't see pages of the same artist so many times when they have lots of contributing projects. Or, if you have discography's. Also gives you consistency in that tag too so you don't get wonky dups. Keep a copy of your original music on a separate drive for the purist in you or for your other devices if you don't want to lose those tags entirely.
I went artist by artist and test imported just an artist at a time initially to see how it appears for the Artist/Album to really make sure I had a clean front end that made sense. Once i had some momentum going.....turn up the music, and I'd plug away for an hour or two and "test" import several artists at a time and you'll catch anything that doesn't sit right. It's less intimidating for company when they come over too.
It's a bugger sorting music and tagging to get it right but, once its set....You're solid!
I did this for "Various Artists" too. I first sorted my folders on the drive as "Various Punk", Various D&B", "Various Rock" etc....then, dragged and dropped those albums into the folder and pulled up Tag&Rename to label it like the folder. I click on V when i want those Various artist albums. It prevents my discog folders from getting muddled by the "Various" albums, and from having random single song artists in the list.
I use MP3Tag for all my other tags when i'm working on new stuff now. It's more detailed and easier for all the other tag work!
